About Us
Since 1967, the forerunner of Literacy Volunteers Ontario - Yates, the Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County, Inc. (New York) offered free and confidential one-to-one tutoring help to adults who want to improve their reading, writing, and English-speaking skills. On February 18, 2009, Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County expanded its program to also include Literacy Volunteers of Yates County (New York). The combined name is Literacy Volunteers Ontario - Yates (LVOY).
Our Mission
The mission of Literacy Volunteers Ontario - Yates, Inc. is to provide adults the literacy skills needed to reach their full potential as individuals, parents, workers and citizens.
Why We're Successful
We use highly qualified, committed tutors who are trained and certified in student-centered learning. We provide tutoring that is specifically geared to each student's particular learning style. We set mutual goals that are realistic and attainable. We offer scheduling that is flexible and accomodating for both the student and tutor.
