Prospective Tutors

BECOME A LITERACY VOLUNTEER TUTOR!

CANANDAIGUA, NY –Literacy Volunteers of Ontario-Yates (LVOY) is offering Tutor Training. This training will prepare potential tutors who wish to work with either adult Basic Literacy Learners or adult English Language Learners.

As part of its new Tutor Training Initiative, LVOY will offer one 3-hour Orientation session, two 3-hour Basic Literacy sessions, two 3-hour English Language sessions and one 3-hour Successful Tutoring session. The total training becomes 12 hours depending on what type of adult learner one chooses to tutor.

In order to become a tutor, you must be: 18 years of age, have an interest in helping adult learners, be a high school graduate (or GED), be able to attend the entire training program, complete homework assignments and be willing to devote at least 2 hours per week to work with an adult learner. Tutors need not have a teaching background or have knowledge of a foreign language.

Attendance at a one-hour information session is a pre-requisite to participating in these upcoming training sessions. Registration is required for all sessions.
