How You Can Help
As An Individual
"There is no greater joy than teaching an adult to read, to share that excitement when everything comes together for your student."
There are many ways that you can contribute your talents and experience the reward of bringing the gift of literacy to adult learners in Ontario County.
- Literacy Volunteer Tutor. Our volunteer tutors are essential to the success of our organization. Tutors receive intensive training through a series of workshops to prepare them to teach an adult learner. You do not have to be a professional educator to serve as a tutor. For qualifications and a sign-up form, click here.
- Office Volunteer. Literacy Volunteers of Ontario - Yates has ongoing needs for volunteers in the office to prepare special mailings, to support fundraising campaigns, and to assist with administrative projects. There are many ways you can help. To volunteer your time and talents, click here.
- Special Event Volunteer. Perhaps you can't commit to a regular schedule. There are events throughout the year that need dedicated volunteers on a short-term basis, such as the Student-Tutor Brunch and the Annual Dinner. We also have fundraisers throughout the year. We can use your expertise for these special events. To sign up for special events, click here.
If you cannot contribute time, there are many other meaningful ways that you can promote literacy in your community. Literacy Volunteers of Ontario - Yates is a 501©3 organization with very low administrative expenses. Thus, you can be assured that your cash and other contributions will directly benefit the adults, who need extra help to read, write, and speak English, to meet their personal and career goals. All contributions will be gratefully acknowledged in writing.
